Your First Visit

Young boy receiving a dental exam

Your child can expect to walk into our dental office and find a host of toys, games, and other activities to enjoy. From TVs to coloring areas, the wait time in our lobby will be minimal but fun for little ones. Once we escort you and your child back to an operatory, we will have them sit in the dentist’s chair so that we can show and explain the various types of dental instruments that we use.

We will then begin to give their teeth a quick polish before capturing dental X-rays. After one of our board-certified dentists reviews the images, they will complete a thorough examination to check for cavities, decay, or gum disease. They’ll also look at your child’s bite. If certain services such as fluoride treatment or dental sealants are recommended, we’ll go over them with you during the appointment.

Following the examination and cleaning, your child will receive a host of goodies, including bags, toothbrushes, stickers, balloons, and toys.

Dental Insurance Welcome

If you are enrolled in a dental insurance plan, then you already recognize the value and benefit it can provide when it comes to saving on your child’s oral healthcare treatment. Affordable dental care allows you to save more for the things you and your family enjoy like vacations and special gifts throughout the year. At Main Street Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Pleasanton, we are pleased to be in-network with many dental insurance companies, making it easier for you to ensure the health of your child’s smile without the high financial burden.

Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance works differently than medical insurance, as the former focuses more on preventive care. Dental checkups and teeth cleanings serve to minimize the need for invasive and complex restorative treatment, which means that dental insurance companies are likely to cover more for these services. However, coverage for tooth extraction or pulp therapy might be less. No matter the type of treatment your child needs, you can expect the greatest savings to come with preventive and restorative care.

What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers

Each dental insurance plan is different, so once our team can review your policy, we can help you better understand the details. This will ensure that you get the most out of your benefits.

It is not uncommon for many dental insurance companies to maintain a similar breakdown when it comes to what is covered. This might look like the following:

  • 100% preventive care
  • 80% minor restorative care
  • 50% major restorative care

Any type of preventive care that your child receives is worth the time because of the savings you can expect. Six-month dental checkups and teeth cleanings as well as digital X-rays will not only help to ensure their smile remains cavity-free, but you’ll keep more money in your pocket as well!

Our In-Network Dental Insurance Providers

When we opt to be in-network with a dental insurance company, we build a contract that includes pre-negotiated fees and terms. This means that you can expect to pay the lowest price when bringing your child in to receive preventive or restorative treatment.

The following is a list of our in-network dental insurance providers:

  • Delta Dental
  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
